Certification
Have you completed EMDR Basic Training with an EMDRIA-approved trainer and are ready to become an EMDR Certified Therapist? If so, we are here to help. Cornerstone EMDR Training & Consulting is committed to helping clinicians improve their confidence and competence in the use of EMDR skills.

To become an EMDR Certified Therapist, you must display competence in implementing the eight phases of EMDR. Competence includes demonstrating the following skills:

Gathering appropriate client history

Showing sensitivity to different client populations

Utilizing available resources for client support

Assessing client for appropriateness for EMDR therapy

Screening client for dissociation
-
Explaining EMDR therapy process to the client

Preparing client for EMDR therapy

Understanding of and using mechanics of EMDR (e.g., seating, distance, stop signal)

Utilizing safe place effectively
-
Installing RDI effectively when needed
-
Staying out of the way while processing with client
-
Dealing effectively with “looping” and “stuck processing” (e.g., change direction, speed or amount of eye movements; change modalities; cognitive interweaves)

Providing appropriate closure for incomplete sessions
-
Utilizing standard EMDR therapy in a comprehensive treatment plan for clients

Showing proficiency and fidelity in applying standard EMDR therapy
-
Understanding of when to use standard EMDR therapy vs. when to use modifications in order to safely and effectively treat the client

Preparing adequate case presentation material or recordings of their use of EMDR therapy with clients
